SHE stays still
I'll be honest, this past week has been a struggle. Every time I sat down to write, my mind went blank. I found myself starting and stopping midway because I felt like I was losing the flow of my message. I was so caught up on the particular verse I wanted to use or the headline of the blog that I was losing sight of who was actually the true author. I have to be honest. I wish I could say that HERology 101 blogs were original...like I just come up with this stuff all by myself. But I'm honestly just a ghost writer. A conduit of the message that's put in my heart during the most random times. Driving down the highway....elbow deep in a bag of sour cream and onion chips...or literally right before I was about to start my first REM cycle for the night! The Holy Spirit is the true writer of HERology 101. When I allow the Holy Spirit to be free to clear my thoughts and selfish ambitions, then and only then am I able to write these blogs without a moment of writer's block because the Holy Spirit always knows what He wants to say...but as Christians we have to be silent enough to discern it. How many times do you feel like God has called you to cross a sea without a boat? You're standing right in front of life's waves and deep waters, with this clear message that you're supposed to cross it, but all you see around you is an obstacle and several hundred angry enemies charging toward you. When Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, they too faced a tumultuous obstacle. The Red Sea. They felt confident as they marched out of Egypt as freed people only to feel betrayed by the pending signs that this new land would be their future grave sites. As the Egyptians were visibly charging toward them and as the Israelites reached the outskirts of the shore...Moses could have allowed himself to measure the situation based on his own abilities...which couldn’t compete against a large body of water no matter how notorious he had become. Instead, he called out to the God who already hardened the heart of the Pharaoh again just so He could bring all his men to receive a front row display of God's glory. Amidst the distracting cries from his own people, Moses allowed himself to be a conduit of the confidence that God gave him... "The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still." -Exodus 14:14 It was pretty much a wrap after that. What else can you do when God parts a Sea...you take your tail across it on dry land! Hearing God's voice in situations may be the hardest thing to do even when you're silent. But the true beauty of His character comes when God uses your silence to speak louder than the waves surrounding you! "The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD thunders over the mighty waters" -Psalm 29:3
What question are you waiting for God to answer?
this week, How can you practice being still enough to hear his voice better?
