SHE stays in her lane.
Imagine God called you be a gourmet baker. You work at this beautiful, quaint bakery making scones and breads, and other pastries that are not a part of anyone's Whole 30 or Paleo diet. Then one day, your boss tells you that you need to start making pizzas...you question it at first and then you shrug it off because who says no to pizza, right. Then the next day, your boss tells you she wants you to start waiting tables, then cleaning the bathrooms, and eventually she has you managing the finances of the shop. At some point you would say "Whoa, whoa, whoa! I'm a baker. That's not what I signed up for."
No one likes to have things added to their plate that they didn't ask for or sign up to do. When it comes to making decisions to act or make plans in your life, however, how many times do you do things God never called you to do. Like finally clapback at that co-worker who has been trying your patience since Day 1, for example.
When it comes to my actions and life plans, I definitely am guilty of "giving it to God" and then slowly taking it right back because it's taking too long or the process is not developing the way I had planned. Without fail, when I begin to manipulate the desires and dreams with my mere mortal hands, they inevitably crumble right in front of me. Like a child, I'm forced to bring back the broken pieces back to God with wordless tears and ask him to fix it. And he always does.
"And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new " And He said, "Write, for these words are faithful and true."
-Revelation 21:5
That's just who He is...amongst thousands of other roles. He's a fixer. Not the Olivia Pope kind with the white coat. The kind to allow me to foil all these wonderful plans He had for me, just so He can turn each seemingly broken piece into fertile ground for new growth.
But what if you could avoid all of that? What if you lived the unedited Plan A version of your life? In Psalm 9, David outlines beautifully what God's role versus your role is in life.
God's Lane (Job) Your Lane (Job)
(1) Cause my enemies to not to win (1) Give thanks to God & brag about what He's done
(2) Protecting my purpose (2) Be glad, rejoice & sing God's praises
(3) Completely destroying my enemies
(4) Judge
(6) Loyalty
(7) To be aware of my troubles and pain
(8) To be just
Wow! Look at what God gives you to do! He literally only put you in charge of two things: (1) give thanks & (2) rejoice and be glad. He has taken care of everything else.
You can find these same roles and responsibilities supported throughout His word. He never calls you to go after those that have hurt you for vengeance sake, to judge others, or be your own safe place. It's the best combo deal in the history of mankind and the best part is it's FREE!
So when the desire stirs up inside of you to act outside of your job description. Put on that turn signal and get back in your lane!!
What are the areas of your life you're trying to control?
What do you need to give back to God in order to stay in your lane?
