SHE has simple faith
I hate bugs. Anything that flies or crawls will send me running in any direction until I believe that the threat has been neutralized.
Bees. Ladybugs. Moths. Ants. Spiders.
The worst of them are spiders.
I moved to the South because of the weather. I moved to the Bay because of a job but the weather was an added perk. One thing I noticed is that spiders and myself have similar climate preferences because I’ve killed more spiders in the last four years than I ever had in the two plus decades I lived in the Midwest.
Because of my severe case of self-diagnosed arachnophobia, my spider attacks are always attempted from at least 2 feet away. Just in case the spider used to hoop or wants to be a hero, I don’t risk the possibility of it jumping on me. I would pass out.
So in complete disregard for my health, I typically spray enough insecticide to kill its immediate and extended family. Talk about breaking generational curses.
To be honest, it doesn't need all of that.
Neither does our faith.
I think about the two people that encountered Jesus and received their blessings with simple faith.
The woman with the issue of blood.
“Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering. “ | Mark 5:34
The father with a dying daughter.
“Don’t be afraid; just believe.” | Mark 5:36
They both had faith that mere contact with the Messiah would be enough to solve their biggest life’s problems.
He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.”
-Luke 17:6
But in today’s world of extravagance, we tend to misconceive that the bigger the problem, the bigger our faith must be. So we purchase a huge can of faith and spray half the bottle over our problems.
Don’t complicate faith. Compliment it.
I’d like to believe that little faith is required to tear down the obstacles of our lives, because God knows that the action following the faith is where the real work is.
I have full faith that my name brand insect killer can do its job, but it means nothing until I use it.
Not just believing it, but acting as if it is already true, makes the difference in what we can eventually see.
So even if feels like you can barely gather enough faith to fit on the tip of your finger. Good news, you have enough to move mountains!
Mediate on a time when you received a blessing or an answered prayer even when you didn't feel like you had a lot of faith.
