SHE has her own glass slipper
“At the stroke of midnight, your carriage will turn back into a pumpkin.” Talk about an embarrassing repossession. Probably one of the most well-known repos in fairy tale history. The story of Cinderella.
As a little girl, I loved the plot development of this neglected orphan child raised up to be the prince’s number one draft pick! Although, the story goes that the prince and princess flirted face to face, for some reason he needed a shoe to confirm who it was that he talked to just the night before. Man, if that’s all it took to make it into the Royal Kingdom, please let them know I’m a size 10!
While the prince’s wifey criteria was pretty baseless and arbitrary, it does show us the power of purpose. The prince had a shoe that was designed particularly and exclusively for his future wife. It didn’t matter what she looked like or where she came from. She only needed to fit what was designed for her.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
- Jeremiah 29:11
I have dreams and plans for myself too. As a Christian, I try to make sure those dreams and plans also align with what God would have me to do too, but it’s important to know that God does want us to dream. However, sometimes when we begin to ask God for things, we can tend to want to copy and paste what we’ve seen other’s fulfilled dreams look like.
Maybe you want to travel around the world because it seems like EVERYONE is going to the Dominican and Dubai for vacation.
Maybe you want a new car because your coworker just parked his 2019 Acura and it looks like he’s so much happier.
There’s nothing wrong appreciating nice things, but we have to be careful so that we are not sidetracked by someone else’s storyline. God has a perfectly designed dream that He wants all of us to fit perfectly into so we too can inherit all the kingdom has to offer. Like Cinderella’s stepsisters, nobody can take what is already yours. They tried to squeeze and bend their toes into all the crevasses of the shoe, but it was obvious it was not for them. Inevitably, Cinderella received what was hers right at her doorstep. Literally.
What dreams have you talked to or are talking to God about? Is it based on what you see someone else doing or is it something that you know is specially designed for you? This week, pay special attention in the quiet times you have with God and ask for discernment to know when it’s time for your glass slipper.
