SHE no longer lives her lies
I almost got, got! Sitting innocently enough on my couch, one harmless text message from a friend became an open door for deceit. Within the matter of minutes I traded my joy for jealousy and uncoincidentally a flood of evidence to support the lie began to flood my timelines and newsfeed. My thoughts were running wild in meadows of condemnation and I was beginning to perceive the weeds as flowers.
This is the exact tactic the devil uses in spiritual warfare. He will use your thoughts as prison bars that keep you from sharing your pain with others. He will isolate you from friends and family who can speak God’s word into your life. He will either tell you your pain is insignificant or that you are simply blowing things up in your mind. He will use your areas of weakness to build his case against you. He will make you feel like God has abandoned you and you have gone past the point of no redemption. He will convince you that God’s grace has a limit that you have clearly surpassed. He will try to make every promise, plan, and purpose over your life into a facade of our imagination.
Why would anyone work that hard though? Why does the devil “care” so much about me? I’m not a politician that can enact legislative policies. I’m not a celebrity that sets trends at the national and international level. I’m not even a pastor that congregates masses of believers to share the gospel. I’m a 20-something year old therapist turned blogger who likes to make dollar store DIY projects in the suburbs of Texas…why me?
…perhaps the devil understands the power that I possess more than I do at times.
I mean… I am a child of God! Forget the Kennedys, Rockefellers, or even Kardashians. Jesus fostered me while in sin, and adopted me through His death and then resurrection! All so He could call me:
But to all who have received him--those who believe in his name--he has given the right to become God's children … (John 1:12)
I no longer call you slaves, because the slave does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because I have revealed to you everything I heard from my Father (John 15:15)
JUSTIFIED AND REDEEMED
But they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:24)
We know that our old man was crucified with him so that the body of sin would no longer dominate us, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin (Romans 6:6)
Receive one another, then, just as Christ also received you, to God's glory (Romans 15:7)
In Christ we too have been claimed as God's own possession, since we were predestined according to the one purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to the counsel of his will (Ephesians 1:11)
So I’m not surprised that the devil is working so tirelessly. He sees the impact whether large or small you and I have in God’s kingdom. His only and predictable line of defense is to simply invert every true and liberating statement into a trap of lies. When we allow his lies to overtake our mind, they can very easily begin to sound like our voice, and at times God’s.
The only way out is through the truth that God gives us. In the midst of the loud accusations against me I screamed louder. I drowned out the lies with songs of worship, scriptures of truth, and the captivity of every thought that could not be from Christ. My circumstances did not change but my perspective did. The devil wants your freedom because he knows you can’t set others free when you’re bound or shackled in defeat. So run in the reckless love God has for you….you are not your lies!
What lies has the devil tried to tell you? Say them outloud and try to fix it with God’s truth.
What praise song or scripture can you use to counter the lies?
